Evaluation of Diagnosis, Treatment and Clinical Follow up of Patients with Diabetes Mellitus at Primary and Third Stage Health Services

INTRODUCTION: DM is a chronic metabolic disease that requires continuous medical care. Our aim with this study is evaluate the diagnosis, treatment and clinical follow-up of Diabetes Mellitus patients.

METHODS: This is a descriptive study that uses information from Family Health Centers of xxxxxxx Provincial Health Directorate’ and xxxxxxxxxxxxxx University Health Application and Research Hospital Endocrinology and Internal Diseases Polyclinics’ patients who at least 1 year diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus. A questionnaire was applied to the Diabetes Mellitus patients.
RESULTS: This methodological study was performed on 979 Diabetes Mellitus cases. 515 of the cases (52.6%) were in xxxxxx University Health Application and Research Hospital Endocrinology and Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinics (Third-Stage Health Services) and 464 (47.4%) were in xxxxxxx Provincial Health Directorate (Primary Health Services ). Complicated Diabetes Mellitus patients prefer Third-Stage Health Services more than Primary Health Services.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that requires continuous medical care, Family physicians play an important role at management of DM because of their important role in primary health care services.
